After you left Magtvûrk in 2000 you started your own project and your own label, can you talk a little about how that happened and what made this move successful?

I think we grew apart musically within the band. I wanted us to go in a more electronic direction, using sequencers and samplers, while the rest of the band wanted to be more rock n' roll, so eventually I left, while the others continued for a few years.

While I was playing with Magtvûrk, I had been doing electronic stuff on the side with Lasse Bruhn with whom I shared a studio, but as he gradually developed an interest in progressive house, I eventually moved my gear home and started working alone. However, two of the tracks we did together ("Two Lone Swampsons" and "Hey Man") ended up on the first Rumpistol album, and for sure Lasse had a lot to do with the early Rumpistol sound.

The idea of running a label grew out of a passion for the music I heard around me, which wasn't being released, but the ambition was never to make a lot of money, so as far as success in the economical sense, that still hasn't happened yet!

Who are your contemporary influences and whom have you had a chance to collaborate with that you admire?

When it comes to influences there are too many to mention. I tend to get very influenced by a lot of the stuff I hear, so I try not to listen too much to music while I’m producing new tracks. I have been listening a lot to German prog-rock from the seventies lately, and bands like Harmonia, Cluster and of course Can and Neu. Recently I’ve been talking to Takeshi Korosawa (Sora) about doing a collaboration, but we’ve both been really busy lately, so it wont happen until next year I think. Also I have some plans to do something with Ivan Pavlov of COH, when Hess finished with his current projects.

I really admire both artists, so that’s something I’m really looking forward to.

Please tell us about a high-point in your career so far.

Probably playing at this year’s Roskilde Festival in front of around 5000 people.
