want to get good gas mileage. We just don't have synchronicity between the government, the manufacturers and the car buyers.”

Martin O'Brien, a pioneer in the realm of biofuel awareness, is working to bring that synchronicity to us. Martin is currently wrapped around his upcoming film “Freedom Fuels”, a documentary taking an in-depth look at “biofuels from a global perspective.” The film explores how the petroleum industry and alternative fuels have interacted over the past 150 years. “Its purpose is to take a very complicated subject matter, and simplify it as best as possible,” says O’Brien, “Its goal is to make people aware of the pros and cons of the world of biofuels.”

O’Brien is optimistic about the general public’s ability to see the sense and simplicity inherent in the budding biofuel idea. “Some people are viewing this as a revolution akin to the invention of automobiles, or the Internet revolution. People are concerned about the war, high gas prices and the environment, so there is a natural rise in the interest of the future of fuels.” O’Brien himself runs his car on pure vegetable oil, but his film covers Ethanol, Biodiesel and Pure Vegetable Oil. The film will be appearing in The Artivist Film Festival in Hollywood, a festival “merging art

and activism for global consciousness,” on Saturday November 11 at 6:00 PM (www.artivists.org). He also has plans to donate a copy of the film to Free Speech TV (www.freespeech.org), and to have the film available for free download on his website (www.freedomfuels.info), coming soon.

We the people, especially in America, are facing a very real and literal turnabout in the history of fuels. Our dependence has brought us to the end of our ability to effectively use fossil fuels as a resource. Our political meddlings have left us with very little support in the way of functional international trade, and with a huge national deficit. Petroleum prices are skyrocketing and vehicles just get larger. We are reaching critical mass, a time when communication, education are key. A time when the simple beauty of sustainable living will take root in every aspect of our lives. We are moving toward a revolution in thought, in sustainability, in fuels. Embrace the changes, and may the whole world find joy in the smell of french fries.
