My professional theatrical career began as an actress in theatre,
film and television in Los Angeles in the early 1980’s. I
was fortunate to be involved in theatre projects that performed
at wonderful regional theatres such as ; The Odyssey Theatre, The
West Coast Theatre Ensemble, The Matrix Theatre , The Company and
The Theatre of N.O.T.E. where I also was a board member. My film
credits include FRANCES with Jessica Lange and my television credits
include small roles on the episodic t. v shows, Quincy and ST. Elsewhere.
I began my directing career at the Theatre of N.O.T.E. With that
first directing opportunity I embraced the idea of adding the craft
of directing to my creative life. Since that first directing experience,
I have directed thirty three plays. Most of those plays were directed
in my eight year tenure as the ARTISTIC DIRECTOR for Sonoma County
Repertory Theatre .
I’m very proud of the creative success that Executive Artistic
Director , Jim dePriest, and I along with twenty plus incredibly
talented and versatile actors and writers achieved as Sonoma County
Repertory Theatre. For five glorious years we operated two theatre
facilities; a 150 seat arena stage theatre and an 81 seat black
box theatre. We produced over 60 plays in that time span., many
critically acclaimed. Also, Sonoma County Repertory produced Shakespeare
at Ives Park in Sebastopol every summer for the past 12 years.
I was very lucky to be able to act as well as direct at Sonoma
County Repertory Theatre. The unique talent pool welcomed me as
an actor as well as the Artistic Director and therefore allowed
me the wonderful opportunities to play some of the greatest characters
ever written. For those incredible experiences, I’m forever
grateful to my fellow artists at SCRT.
The New Drama Works at SCRT was one of my favourite programs. To
be a part of a production from the very begging is extremely exciting
and gratifying. When words on the page take voice for the first
time that moment is theatre itself. I was very lucky to work with
talented playwrights who were open to the process of collaboration
with the director and actors to create an original production. All
the passion and enthusiasm I have for new plays was born while creating
with The New Drama Works.
Kim Shepard and I meant ten years ago at Sonoma County Repertory
Theatre . Kim was acting and I was directing. I never imagined that
ten years later she and I would be collaborating as a playwright/producer
and a director . Kim has made this collaborative effort between
writer and director very easy by being so open to suggestions and
change. I’m very happy to be working with this production
company. 68 monkeys respect and support for the artist is truly
impressive and I’m very proud to be directing this first production
of “the potted plant: a housewives guide” .
